FAQs

Q. Do you have a storefront?
A. Currently, we do not have a storefront and are present at the Halifax Brewery farmer's market only. Our online storefront is available through the week days to place an order online and pick up at our bakery in Bayside or at the farmers market. See question "How can I place an order".
Q. Where is your bakery located?
A. We operate a micro-bakery in Prospect area.

Q. Do you have a Food Permit?
A. Yes. As of September 2025, our bakery has been an inspected kitchen with the Food Establishment Permit. We operate under Nova Scotia and the Food Safety Regulations.

Q. Do you make a gluten-free bread?
A. All our products contain gluten. However, slow fermentation helps to break down gluten to its minimum levels. Sourdough is a real ancient naturally fermented bread with the lowest gluten level.
Q. How can I place an order?
A. Simply navigate to our online Storefront page, choose the date you would like to pick up your order, select items and quantities, and finalize your order.

Q. Where can I pick up my order?
A. From Halifax Brewery Market, upper courtyard, next to the Alexander Keith brewery entrance every Saturday from 8 AM to 1 PM or Fridays at our bakery located in Bayside. Exact address is shared upon receipt of your order online.

Q. Do I need to pay for my order in advance?
A. If you want to guarantee your order, you will need to make a pre-payment via our online ordering platform. Otherwise, it is a first-come, first-served option.

Q. What payment methods do you accept?
A. We accept payment by cards (Debit, Visa, Mastercard), cash, and market money (available only at Halifax Brewery Market).

Q. Do you offer other products or only what is listed on your website?
A. We offer new items from time to time, depending on the season or holidays. We can also take special orders for other sourdough or non-sourdough products. Note that we need at least a week notice for special orders, as sourdough is a time-consuming process. Please contact us for further details.

Q. Are all the items listed on your website available at the market?
A. Most bread options are available every week. However, our menu varies for specialty bread and pastry. Please navigate to our online storefront to review weekly menu which is posted every Monday.

Q. How to store sourdough bread?
A. Our sourdough bread is made with organic and natural ingredients. It has no preservatives and is meant to be enjoyed fresh. It will stay fresh for 2-3 days at room temperature. However, this time can be reduced to 1-2 days in summertime due to higher temperatures and increased humidity. Store your bread in a paper bag, bee-waxed cotton or linen bag, or bread box.

Q. How to revive stale bread?
A. Simply sprinkle it with water and heat it in the oven at 375F until crunchy.

Q. Can I freeze the bread?
A. Yes, freeze bread in a sealed bag for up to 6 months. Slice it before freezing for easy portioning. Frozen sourdough is proven to have more benefits. Freezing sourdough bread increases its resistant starch, which leads to a lower glycemic impact, improved blood sugar control, and better gut health.

Q. How to revive frozen bread?
A. Thaw it in the fridge overnight. Toast it at 375F until crunchy. Alternatively, it can be toasted using defrost settings.

Q. Do you offer pre-sliced bread?
A. At the moment, we do not offer sliced bread.ย
